Scenario
Parker was a founder of a start-up and is responsible for different aspects of the company. In addition to the operations, strategy, and fundraising, they also handled HR, MarComm and team building. They were operating as a CEO, COO, and CHRO, and the pressure of the job made them feel burnt out and deflated.
Intervention
The first thing Griffin Dunn worked with Parker was to pursue balance in their life. Just like an emergency adage in the event of a plane crash, we made sure they took care of themselves first before addressing the problems in their company. When this was accomplished, we worked together to determine their distinctive competence to further their company focusing on the things that only they could do. We worked with them to develop a clarity of objectives and the processes they needed to make them successful. We helped them understand the things they did well and maximize those skills for their position.
Outcome
After coaching with Griffin Dunn for six months, the post-series A round was a success, and Parker brought on key team members to oversee HR, onboarding, communications and marketing. Parker is now focused on their primary role as a COO, and is very well respected by their co-founders and colleagues because of their leadership. Perhaps the most important success we had with Parker was that they were now happier in the job and no longer felt burnt out. They became excited again about the job and felt a renewed energy to tackle the challenges facing a well-funded start-up. Parker was also living a healthier lifestyle and had more clarity and direction that showed up as general joyfulness in their life.
